About
Here you will find a miscellany of things from Astronomy Projects to Woodwork Projects, Film & Digital Camera photographs to a Web Graphics Tutorial. I hope you enjoy your visit and find the information useful.
The Astronomy section has several projects available for those with some D-I-Y skills. There is a construction article for a Parallelogram Binocular Mount which takes the strain off extended periods of viewing.
There is a design for a Reflex or Unity Power Sight . Coming later there will be an article on an Equatorial Platform for Dobsonian telesopes.
The Photography section reflects my interests in the unusual and often unseen effects of natural phenomena like the Sun halo here as well as pretty things like flora and fauna. The daffodil shown is one of many flower photos.
Cats and spiders feature as well as bees and flies. This section hosts the astronomy photos – the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn may be seen here.
I have always looked to my own resources before going out and spending ‘loadsa money’ for things that I am able to make for myself. Perhaps it is the engineer in me saying that I will get a better product if I design or make it myself.
Woodworking Projects shows some of my work.
There are increasing numbers of digital cameras and scanners in the home computer users’ peripheral arsenal these days. While they can produce very acceptable results, the digital camera is still very much in the ‘automatic’ class of cameras and may produce results that need the white level adjusting to fit the dynamic range or the midtones lifting to reveal the detail in the shadows. To this end, I have put together a Web Graphics Tutorial to show how a poor image may be improved and its filesize reduced to provide a quick loading web image.
Here are some notes on my recent XP1800+ computer build.
